Work Life

Some things about the corporate life just make me smile.

First off, you have to be good with the buzz words…Ambiguity and EBIT are big, but my favorite lately has been the phrase, “going forward.” I am starting to use this phrase as well, but I still can’t help but to smile when I hear it. I am not sure why. I guess I am just used to “in the future.”

Second, going to work is like going on a safari. You have to bring enough sustenance to last for the entire trip. At one time this week, I had a buffet at my desk: Pretzels, chex mix, pop tarts, skittles, and Nutri-Grain bars…and that didn’t include what I brought for lunch. If you don’t bring sustenance, then life will be very dangerous. You may not be able to bring yourself to eat what the tribe provides for you. Therefore you may go all day not eating anything. Or worse, without some sugar or some life-saving Mountain Dew, you may not be as alert as you need to be.
Last week, I brought in this huge thing of pretzels. It was actually quite nifty…it tilts and has a lid that will pop open and stay open. Now i am not a huge pretzel person, but I finished the lot off today. I think because while working on stuff, I just keep eating them, not even thinking about what i was doing or if i am even hungry. I see myself gaining some weight.

This is good stuff to keep in mind, going forward…

A stupid moment just cost me

I am so frustrated. I finally decided on a dress. I found it at one store here in town, but it was a little expensive. I called around last month and got a quote of $140 cheaper at this place called The Gown Gallery in KC. Now that I have made my decision, I called back to double check the price and to make an appointment to get measured, and I accidentally let it slip that I already saw it in a store here in Lawrence. She was very rude and told me that they won’t undercutt their competitors, so her price would be the same. I was completely shocked. Obviously they are not in business to get customers or to make money. It pisses me off so much. Plus their website sucks. It is just a bunch of garbage. Check it out in Firefox. I will never give them my business. Nobody else should either. I’d rather pay more somewhere else than give them a single cent.

To the reader that seems to be obsessed with insulting my blog:

how in the world did you relate “taste the flavor” with sprite?
why do you even care?
If you don’t like the URL, don’t read my blog.
get a life

If you were really one of my best friends,
you wouldn’t call me a snob
I believe at one point, you said “taste the flavor” was retarded.
you wouldn’t try to hide your identity,
and my best friends already know where “taste the flavor” came from.

Next time if you want a question answered, try asking nicely. Then I would have been more than happy to answer.

Sarah came up to see me last weekend. It was good to hang out. We went to the Ben Folds concert on Saturday night. We kinda got lost getting there and going back, but it all worked out, and the concert was great. We also went to Davids Bridal. I really didn’t see anything that i liked as well as the dress I found here in Lawrence.

Monday after work, I drove down to springfield to move Matt into his apartment. That was why my blog was down for a few days. I think I am going to miss not being able to go see him whenever I want.

This weekend, I went back to Davids Bridal with a couple girls from work. I saw some dresses online that I liked but didn’t see them last time I went, so I thought that if I went in with specific dresses, that it might be more productive. I did see some that I liked, but again, I am still partial to dress #1.

Tomorrow I am going to Paola, Kansas to look for a dress. If I don’t find anything that I like as well, I think I am going to go with dress #1.

Last night I bought some scrapbook stuff. It was really expensive, but it should be a nice project I can work on.
Matt and I also set up a wedding website at The Knot. It is a work in progress, but it serves the purpose. Wedding Website

Progress on the wedding front

In the past couple days, we’ve made some advancements, perhaps to balance out the setbacks I posted about a few days ago. The other day, Matt and I registered at Target. We just registered for the main things that we know probably won’t change, so I’m sure that there is more to add to the list, but it was a lot of fun. I guess Matt found it fun also because he started a registry for us at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. It doesn’t have any items in it yet, but we’ll get there and we can always add items online. We plan on registering at a couple more places, but this is a definate start.

Yesterday, my mom and sister came to visit. They brought me my dad’s car, so I don’t have to drive the van anymore! Then they decided to go to my bridal appointment with me. Experts say that most brides buy the first dress they try on. I just may become a statistic to support that. The problem is that it is a little more than we are wanting to spend. I have a strong urge to explain what the dress looks like, but Matt would like it to stay a surprise. Anyway, when it comes down to it, I’m going to shop around some more to see if I find anything more affordable, but I may just have to go back and get it.
