Paint Prep

April 24, 2009 on 12:57 pm | In Uncategorized | 3 Comments

Our house is getting painted in a couple weeks. Yay!

We are going with Gauntlet Gray with white trim. It will be a big change. I’m a bit nervous.
I can’t decide what color the front door should be. What color would go good with Gray and White? Any ideas? I need help!

(Gauntlet Gray is the color under the window)

The Evil Cursor

Here is another poem found in one of my old journals.

The Evil Cursor
By: Anna

(I swear) the cursor on my computer screen
Is very evil, cruel, and mean.
He blinks at me as if to say
“You can’t write a poem. there’s just no way.”

One time, he and his friend Overwrite
Played a trick on me and ruined my night.
I was not looking and had no clue
As my words dwindled down to just a few.

I still try and try to persevere
But not always without shedding a tear.
He just sits there, blinking, mocking me.
Something has to be done, can’t you see?

“I’ll get a new program! That’s what I’ll do!”
And he said with a smile, “I’ll be there too.”
So I decided I’d show’m if I may
And write this poem anyway.

Now, evil cursor leaves me alone
And seeing what I’ve done, I start to moan…
Because now without him, I can’t see
Where my next line is supposed to be.

So I try again but I cannot write.
Without direction I have no sight.
So here I sit at my desk again.
But this time, I will use a pen.

The Crazy Catlady

As promised, I must share some of the findings in those old journals of mine.
Early on in high school, I remember joking with my friends about us becoming old catladies. This was before any of us started meeting guys. Gosh, I was strange at the time!
Anyway…enjoy.

The Crazy Catlady
By:Anna

The other day I thought up a plan
On what to do if I never catch a man
I would grow old and alone in a run-down house
But never have a problem with a single mouse
Because… well… 50 cats live with me
Don’t you see? They become like family.

Each has his or her own name
And despite what you think, my cats are tame.
One cat’s name always rhymes with another
And I consider myself their only mother.

Everyday I take my delight
In filling the neighborhood kids with fright.
“The Crazy Catlady” is what they call me.
I scare them so much that some kid goes wee-wee.
They knock on my door and turn to run away.
“Disappear you childhood delinquents!!” I’d say
as I shake my cane at them in the doorway.

Rumors would spread on how I was a witch
And sometimes I wished that that was my nitch.
So I could reverse my fate
And have a date
Change my life, cause
I’d be a good wife.

One day, in a pool of cat-nip I fell asleep
I never woke up and into the unknown I did seep.
It was weeks before anyone realized I was dead
Not until the stench of my body reached a neighbor’s head.
Soon the smell of my decaying body was so bad
The whole community puked, even the small lad.

A meeting was held and they decided to pick
One young man because he was so quick.
He knocked on my door, but no answer arose
As he smelled the sent of my old rotting toes.
He kicked down the door and started looking for me,
But shielded his eyes when he began to see
What was left of my remains (parts the cats did not eat)
But that pile of cat-nip was not my eternal seat.

A funeral was paid for by the people of the neighborhood
But no one came, even if they could.
And so, as fun as the crazy catlady life would be
I want to find a man, because that future, I can not see.

blank books

Do you remember being 14 years old and completely addicted to blank books? I sure do. I bet if you are a girl, you were obsessed with these journals at one point in time.

There was something about those journals that made me feel creative and that anything was possible if I just put the pen to the page. Today, I was looking through some old boxes and I found several of them, most of which have never been written in. I did find one however, that was quite amusing. It had several poems I wrote from age 14 to 17. I think I’ll have to blog a couple of those. :P

I guess blogging isn’t all that different…Just a bit more public. I’m on my 5th year of blogging on Wordpress. I have 275 published posts and 35 private ones. I’ll have to celebrate when I reach 300.

Anyway, it would feel strange now to write it all out on paper. I remember when I was really little and I got my first diary for Christmas. I remember it being pink and purple with a very small (and easy to pick) brass lock. I was super excited to get it and immediately wrote my first entry about all the gifts I received. It only took about a day though, for my older brother to find it and make fun of me for its content,
“Anna, that is not what you are supposed to write in a diary!” It seems so silly now, but at the time, it was the end of the world. How can my brother read my diary? Of course the weeks that followed consisted of my trying every hiding place I could think of for that silly thing. Well…no hiding place anymore! Read away!

sugar… oh honey honey

Soda tastes better with sugar rather than high fructose corn syrup.

Pepsi recently came out with several of their popular beverages with sugar. It is really good. You should try it!
